“Knowledge increases through discovery, the creation of new ideas. Knowledge diffuses through education and learning. We’re enhancing that process with digital technology and social media, sharing that knowledge with people and allowing them in turn to interact with us.”

G. Wayne Clough is secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, leading it in an effort to make all that it offers in art, science, history, and culture more accessible to learners of all ages around the world. A civil engineer by training, he was president of the Georgia Institute of Technology for fourteen years.
